Now that I've started interning, I've had to go back to wearing business casual clothing during the days. Next year, I'll have to wear a suit, but I'm not cool enough (read: not certified) to represent clients yet, so I don't have to yet.
So every morning, I put on my dress/dress pants/some kind of sweater/skirt and flats (because my ankle is stupid and still won't let me wear heels) and roll out the door. Being out of an office for awhile, I forgot how much I love and absolutely hate business casual.
In some ways, it's awful. Our office is the arctic, and the clothes are never warm enough. For some reason, business casual is expensive. Because of this, I only have so much of it. Which means I end up wearing the same things every week. I could potentially make some of my other clothes work, but I'd rather not show up in something inappropriate, too short, or too low cut. Call me modest. Some of it needs to be dry cleaned. And zipping my own zippers can be kind of interesting some times.
In other ways, I love it. It feels awesome to dress up in some semi-professional manner. It makes me feel like I'm actually being productive. Or like I'm an actual adult that has work clothes. And I'm not going to lie, some of it makes me feel like I am lookin' goooood.
Right now, I'll keep wearing my great dress/skirt/cardigan/dress pants/flats combos. But let me tell you, I am so looking forward to rocking a power suit.
